I did the same with beer. Bought everything, made
two batches and hated it. I could handle the
sediment but that sugary off taste from priming
the beer was nasty. Bottling was a real PITA. I
should have tried 2 litre bottles instead of stubbies.
I decided to buy a draft setup and can easily say
that it is some of the best money I ever spent!
Bottling takes under ten minutes (kegging really)
including cleaning and sanitizing. You can
accurately control your carbonation level. No
sediment. No sugary taste. The cool factor with
your friends is off the chart.
I've also used my kegs for homemade soda pop,
cider, and home made (not from a kit) coolers. For
instance; ferment 12 cans frozen minute maid
lemonade with 5 lbs sugar and yeast. Add to a keg
and carbonate. Just like Mike's Hard Lemonade for
under $15 for 5 gallons.
Now if only I could improve my wine making skills.
I managed to accidentally carbonate (in the
bottle) a batch of mead I had aged for almost 2
years before bottling, Duh.
Cheers.
