I want to build a new AMD system.
So far, I have determined that:
1] If it's an issue, I'd take SLI over Crossfire, simply b/c (u s u a l l
y)
Linux sup****ts nVidia better than ATI
2] Prefer a board that is not the very latest/greatest, for stability
issues, and again, I need it to be sup****ted by Linux.
3] I'm not a gamer/overclocker, i.o.w.: I'm NOT going to buy the cheaper
CPU
'cuz oc'd it runs better than (fill in here)
4] the more RAM it sup****ts, the better, but at least 4G. This, I
understand, is not really a problem.
5] onboard video is NOT im****tant - I'd rather have a cheap add-on
anytime.
6] onboard Wifi not im****tant
Soooo - I'm getting confused with the sheer abundance of cpu's, mobo's and
"ideal" mobo/cpu combos.
Don't offer Intel advice - simply NOT gonna happen. I do have a preference
for Abit boards - justified or not, I always have had good luck with the
brand.
Money is definitely an issue, unless a kind-hearted and generous soul will
make it not so. However, that doesn't mean I will "stoop" to ECS or
Biostar
and the likes... (don't hurt me) Sub $125 boards preferred, sub $100 even
better.
Who's had good experience with a board/cpu or combo, preferably running
Linux so I can hear about any issues?
Oh - if it's im****tant: Linux will be the host OS (do I REALLY have to say
that) with guest OS WinXP and a plethora of other 'nix & 'bsd guests for
testing purposes. (Yes, I'm addicted. SUE ME)
