Sorry to hear it. :(
If you already have a copy of Windows, then just install it. The only
thing of any consequence - as for a the O/S goes - from your old dirve
was the Windows "Key" code. But if you have purchased another copy of
Windows, that will have a new key with it.
AFAIK, the only thing a "recovery" cd MAY get you is the proper
dirvers for your laptop, and if you are really lucky any of the OEM
software that came with your laptop.
Check the Acer site, you should - at the very least - be able to
download the drivers for your laptop. These will likely include the
INF files for the chipset, the LAN NIC, Audio, and Graphics and Screen
drivers as well.
Spin them onto a CD and then install Windows. Once Windows is up and
running, then use the CD to update any drivers that still have a "?"
beside them.
That's pretty much it.
