I donated a car last year to Polly Klass. The company they contracted
to pick the car up did, in fact, pick the car up. Problem was, Polly
Klass Foundation never registered the car in their name, it was left in
mine. I got a notice about a week later that the car was abandoned down
in the East Bay and had been towed to a yard and storage costs were
mounting. I explained to the Sheriff's Office down there that the car
had been donated to Polly Klass Foundation and I had, in fact, sent in
a release of liability on the car to the DMV. The SO said it was out
of their hands and I'd have to deal with the towing yard.

In the meantime, I got another notice from the towing yard that they
were going to send me to a collection agency if I didn't pay the bill.
I called the Polly Klass Foundation and they sent me a record of the
car having been donated to them (so they thought), but this was from a
previous car I had donated. So I again contacted them and asked them
to send me the correct records. I also got ahold of someone from the
DMV and they said they were running about 60 days behind on entering
the release of liability information in their system. Nice...
Luckily, I got a cooperative person and she said she would track it down
at the Sacramento office of the DMV. The next day, she faxed me the
record of the release of liability and they entered it in the system
retroactive to the date I signed it. Then I had to send copies down
to the SO in the East Bay and the towing yard.

That was an awful lot of hassle. I don't know that I'd go through that
again. I think if I do, I'm not going to call Polly Klass Foundation.
I'll try a different one. (I think all the different places still just
operate the same as Polly Klass, so it probably won't make any
difference...)
