LF: P3-650 CPU slot load fan... or a P3 chip?

by "ad869" <ad869@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > May 20, 2008 at 02:50 PM

Hi:

I'm looking for a fan for a slot-load Intel P3-650 CPU. I'm refurbing an
ancient PC to donate to a local social service place. If you have one or
know where to get one cheap, please let me know.

And yes, I can't believe I'm looking to revive such an ancient CPU. If
anyone has P3 cpu that is faster that is lying around - slotted or not -
and
you wanna dump it, I could use it instead. (I have an old slocket adapter
that might work with a regular chip)

The machine will likely end up with Xubuntu and be used to check webmail
and
surf the net. (I've got a whopping 11 gig HD and 192 M of ram and an old
CD drive to round out this power house system...) Less junk in the land
fill for this month at least.

The CPU that I have now came out of an old HP Vectra and it just had a
huge
heat sink on it because the HP had a vent duct to it from a fan mounted in

the case. Its mobo is toast. I was thinking of putting the P3 in another

case I have just to get some use out of it. But it needs a fan for
cooling - the heat sink alone I don't think will cut it... and I already
unmounted it so I can't reattach it.

I tried using a sink/fan from an old Celeron 300 slotted CPU, but it turns

out the mounting holes are differently spaced. (mental note: measure mount

hole spacing before taking apart cpu+fan package next time)

Thanks,
Raj
