Compaq Alphaserver ES40 for sale (2x)
Common config:
4x 666 MHz CPU w/ 8MB cache (Alpha EV67)
4x 2048 GB memory 4-way interleaved (8 gig total)
floppy and CDROM
add. 2 port ethernet card (3 ports total)
external scsi head
3 power supplies
NO HARDDRIVES (scsi-2 drive needed)
Keyboard and mouse NOT included (uses bog-standard PS/2 key/mouse)
Fullsize rack configuration, 120 lbs.
Runs on standard household 115V, 15A circuit w/o problem.
Excellent working and cosmetic condition.
Differences between machines:
Machine A: Matrox graphics head
Machine B: Elsa Gloria graphics head
+ fiberchannel controller
I updated the firmware to the latest and greatest (7.2) (after
screenshots, so what it shows there is not correct)
Both machines boot the Debian/Alpha livecd. The Matrox card goes into a
X-server video mode my LCD panel cannot handle, so I cannot show the
desktop images, unlike on the Elsa graphics head.
My linux skills are too crusty to play some more with them. These
machines have an IDE controller, but I could only find something about
the DS10 being able to boot off an IDE HDD. Lacking an IDE drive I
cannot try it myself.
Alpha ports exist for Linux and FreeBSD (prob. others). Machine has
Ultrix/OpenVMS proms.
If you want just the guts shipped e-mail me. SLC pickup ONLY (120 lbs).
Bring large car or a truck. I cannot ship these otherwise.
$1750 each or best offer. Cash only, will demo if desired before you
leave with them. Buy both, get discount.
E-mail for fullsize images of machines booting/running linux.
Thanks,
Mike
