a note from a friend right after the storm
I guess the New Orleans office will open
later . . I haven't heard from anyone in that office yet about the
return--but then I think we are all getting shades of PTSD and shutting
down. It is discouraging to hear from friends and learn about the upsets
in
their lives. Even if nothing significant happened to them or their
property--they have relatives, friends who lost everything. One of my
sister's old boyfriends that she keep in loose contact with, lost a
brother
(a tree fell on him--I'm not sure why he was outside), and he and his
father
lost their homes. It becomes overwhelming.
I have a friend who is an electrician--and he is in great demand right
now--and not too happy about it. He apparently is very democratic and is
having to deal with a lot of rich-big egos.
So as always, there bad even in good things, and good in bad.
I spoke with D last week and she told me that N (a co-worker from
Metairie --I'm not sure if you met her) lost all of her
things that were storage in NO, her boyfriend lost his home, and is now
living with her up in DC. I think she is trying to get to Miami now,
where
she was offered a job this summer, but turned it down.
It just doesn't stop.

The tears you shed would build a brand new river
If we were through, if ever we were through
But now somebody new has caught your eye"--Mandy Barnett
